Jet Zero Council funding for zero emission flight competition launched

The UK government has launched the first round of a £3 million Jet Zero Council funding. The competition is known as the Zero Flight Emission Infrastructure (ZEFI) programme. It comes as the government is committing to their Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution.

The Jet Zero Council funding is working with both Connected Places Catapult and the Department for Transport (DfT). It is centred around the research and development of transitioning into zero emission flights.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said:

“As the first major economy to commit to net zero by 2050, we’ve gone further than any country in the world to slash our aviation emissions – providing leadership, funding and the framework needed to lead the charge.

“Now is the time for organisations and companies to take advantage of the opportunities we have provided to harness the economic and environmental benefits building back better and greener has to offer.”

The £3million government and Jet Zero Council funding is planning to allow the UK to build back greener. They hope to do this through the uptake of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This is supported by the plans to develop zero emission aircraft and infrastructure.

What will the competition offer?

The competition will offer grants of up to £50,000 to at least 12 innovative businesses and universities. It’ll go towards the development of technology that can help the aviation industry transition to zero carbon emission flights. The Jet Zero Council funding is 100% funded.
