Are you missing out on Covid-19 business support grants?

Covid-19 business support grants are still available in the UK. At the time of writing this blog (11-02-2022), there’s £850million available to support businesses in the following industries:

  • Hospitality
  • Leisure
  • Accommodation.

Business Minister, Paul Scully, has encouraged businesses to apply for the grants to help them navigate Omicron. Scully said:

“We’re working to get our economy running on all cylinders again so we can focus on making the UK the best place in the world to work and do business, creating jobs along the way.

Eligible businesses should apply as soon as possible for the grants available to help them put the pandemic behind them and get on a sounder footing to achieve success.”

Where is the funding from?

£556million is available through the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant (OHLG) scheme which launched in January 2022. The remaining £294million comes from the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) scheme that has been paying out since November 2020.

The Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant

It’s been widely reported that the hospitality industries have been hit the hardest during the Covid-19 crisis. In 2021, the Office of National Statistics reported that consumer spending in hospitality was 70% less than pre-pandemic levels.

The Covid-19 business support grant provides businesses in these industries with one-off cash grants of up to £6,0000 per premise. The aim of the scheme is to help those businesses that have been impacted the most by the pandemic.

The Additional Restrictions Grant

This scheme was launched to provide councils with funding they can allocate at their discretion to businesses most in need.

The government is encouraging councils to provide the ARG funding to businesses as quickly as possible.

Business Secretary, Kwasi Kwarteng, has written to local authorities who have more than 5% left over from ARG funding rounds. They have been instructed to disburse any remaining funding to help businesses in these greatly impacted industries.

How much is available?

These one-off cash Covid-19 business support grants depend on rateable values of:

  • £51,000 or above: £6,000
  • Between £15,000 – £51,000: £4,000
  • £15,00 or below: £2,667.

The full data and a regional breakdown of the OHLG grants are available on the gov.uk website.
